Over the past several years, the PGAS model has been gaining rising attention. A number of PGAS languages such as UPC and CAF are widely available on high-performance computers. Many of the recent and future high-performance computing systems are providing native hardware support at the network level for PGAS. The DARPA HPCS program has also resulted in new promising PGAS languages, such as X10 and Chapel. This BoF will bring together developers from the various aforementioned PGAS language groups and the research and development community for exchange of ideas and information. PGAS languages are also a primary candiate for achieving performance on manycore chips, as accesses to shared cache and memory become non-uniform in chips with large core counts. This BoF will be conducted in a panel format with one expert from each PGAS language community as a panelist. The panelists will share the most recent developments in each of those language paradigms (from specifications to tools and applications) and will respond to questions of prospective as well as seasoned users. In addition to the paradigm-by-paradigm treatment, myths, successes, and large application development efforts will also be highlighted.
