This is the most common type of storage model found in data centers, clouds, clusters etc. Managing shared buffer caches in multi-level buffer cache hierarchies as well as shared disks in these I/O stacks is a challenge for any researcher. The numerous interactions that disturb the performance in this scenario are difficult to isolate and address. The biggest hurdle in such I/O stacks is that they are not designed to combat inter-application interference. This inter-application interference deteriorates the performance of the shared buffer caches as well as the shared disks severely. I am designing a superior I/O stack which is application and disk characteristic aware and exploits this knowledge to employ a set of unique solutions which will maximize application performance by minimizing the inter-application interference throughout the buffer caches and the disks.
