Examples of computationally oriented internships for undergraduates and fundamental ingredients for developing future biological researchers are also discussed.=0A=0AParticipants will see ways in which computation has become essential to sustaining and advancing contemporary biology as well as become its own area. Computational biology approaches underlie the collection, analysis and visualization of biological data, in addition to modeling the function and dynamics of complex biological systems. Examples of computational biology will be drawn from among the rapidly advancing world of biological macromolecules and biomolecular networks. Free tools and software will be demonstrated that can be useful in teaching biological concepts, as well as in teaching the concepts drawn on for biological computing.=0A=0AAssumed background: basic computer literacy; general biology or equivalent.
