The biological and mathematical models can range from simple biochemical reactions to complex signaling networks used to evaluate hypotheses, to interpret experimental data, or to probe the predicted behavior of complex, highly non-linear systems. Users build models that specify the physiology of the biological system, including compartmental topology and geometry, molecular characteristics, and relevant interaction parameters. Mathematics-savvy users can bypass the schematic interface to specify a mathematical description of the model. Models can be created as continuous or stochastic numerical models with solvers as explicit as Euler to fully-implicit spatial solvers. Participants will be introduced to creating Ordinary Differential Equation (ODE), Stochastic and Partial Differential Equation (PDE) models within the Virtual Cell, as well as accessing pre-existing models from publicly available databases.=0A=0APrerequisite: "Introduction to Systems and Synthetic Biology" session or equivalent.
