Identification of such bottlenecks is primary goal of performance analysis, and performance tools are essential for this purpose. In this poster, we demonstrate a case study of the use of the TAU Toolkit to tune the front tracking CFD application FronTier on Argonne's IBM Blue Gene/P supercomputer and scale it to entire system with 62% efficiency on 163,840 cores. The main improvements are related to enhancements of point-to-point communication pattern, reduction of the number of collective operations, and removal of unnecessary synchronization. FronTier is the main computing code for our study of uncertainty quantification for turbulent mixing as part of the DOE INCITE 2011 award.
