EpiSimdemics is an=0Aimplementation of a scalable parallel algorithm to simulate the spread=0Aof contagion in large (10^8 individuals), realistic social contact=0Anetworks using individual-based models. It includes a rich language=0Afor describing public policy and agent behavior. We describe=0ACharmSimdemics and evaluate its performance on national scale=0Apopulations. Charm++ is a machine independent parallel programming=0Asystem, providing high-level mechanisms and strategies to facilitate=0Athe task of developing highly complex parallel applications. Our=0Adesign includes mapping of application entities to tasks and=0Aleveraging scalable communication, synchronization and load balancing=0Astrategies of Charm++. Our experimental results show that the Charm++=0Aversion achieves up to a 4-fold increase in strong scaling on 796 PEs=0Aand 3-fold increase in weak scaling on 512 PEs when compared to the=0AMPI version.
