The Department has conducted a comprehensive series of workshops and worked with other government agencies, academia, system vendors and the international computational science community to identify key challenges to achieving exascale science. The panel will describe a unique partnership between the Office of Advanced Simulation and Computing in the National Nuclear Security Administration and the Office of Advanced Scientific Computing Research in the Office of Science that is focused on making exascale science a reality for the Nation. Panel members will discuss DOE mission drivers and needs, the coordinated research and development program that is underway, partnership strategies involving DOE laboratories, system vendors and academia, and some of the key technical challenges that must be overcome.
