DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:ABSTRACT: The TOP500 is a treasure trove of information on the leading edge of high=0Aperformance computing. It was used in the 2008 DARPA Exascale technology=0Areport to isolate out the effects of architecture and technology on high=0Aperformance computing, and lay the groundwork to project how current=0Asystems might mature through the coming years. Two particular classes of=0Aarchitectures were identified: "heavyweight'" (based on high end=0Acommodity microprocessors)  and "lightweight,'" (primarily BlueGene=0Avariants), and projections made on performance, concurrency, memory=0Acapacity, and power. This paper updates those projections, and adds a=0Athird class of "heterogeneous'" architectures (leveraging the emerging=0Aclass of GPU-like chips) to the mix.
