DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:ABSTRACT: Advanced Institute for Computational Science (AICS), RIKEN was created in July 2010 under supervision by Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) for establishing the national COE (Center of Excellence) for high performance computing as well as operating the 10petaflops class supercomputer called “K”, manufactured by Fujitsu Ltd. This article presents AICS in the context of the national high performance computing infrastructure of Japan. Also some notable simulation research using the K computer will be touched upon.
