When viewing the Technical Program schedule, on the far righthand side
is a column labeled "PLANNER." Use this planner to build your own
schedule. Once you select an event and want to add it to your personal
schedule, just click on the calendar icon of your choice (outlook
calendar, ical calendar or google calendar) and that event will be
stored there. As you select events in this manner, you will have your
own schedule to guide you through the week.
You can also create your personal schedule on the SC11 app (Boopsie) on your smartphone. Simply select a session you want to attend and "add" it to your plan. Continue in this manner until you have created your own personal schedule. All your events will appear under "My Event Planner" on your smartphone.
Moving Computational Reasoning into High School Math and Science: Success Factors
SESSION: Special Topic: Workforce Development
EVENT TYPE: Workforce Development Panel
TIME: 2:15PM - 3:00PM
Panelists:Cheryl Begandy
ROOM:WSCC 2A/2B
ABSTRACT: Establishing consistent use of computer models and simulations in K-12 classrooms has been a challenge for the computational science education community. Scaling successful local efforts has been particularly difficult. In this presentation we describe how a training model from one place and time can be translated into a training model for another very different place and time if critical factors such as school system culture, professional development organization, local learning standards and goals, and collaboration between STEM disciplines are taken into account. An overview of the CAST (Computation and Science for Teachers) program to infuse computational reasoning into high school math and science will also be presented.
